The Community Organisers Programme, a Government funded Big Society initiative, aims to create a new home-grown movement of community organising for the 21st century, grown directly from the strengths, concerns and hopes of communities across the country.
The programme will recruit and train 500 senior community organisers, along with a further 4,500 part-time voluntary organisers, over four years.
The role of a community organiser is to help residents, groups, associations and businesses in their area to develop their power to act together for the common good and take action to tackle local issues which are important to them.
The programme is currently looking for community organisations to become a Community Organiser host. Successful organisations will go on to recruit and support other community organisers and help them get started on work in their local communities. The deadline for applications is 4th November 2011.
We think it would be fantastic for organisations with experience supporting Community Health Champions and similar activities to apply for this and take their health and well-being expertise to the table!
